History of the Grain Exchange:

The Milwaukee Grain Exchange was a pioneer in grain trading with their development of the trading floor pit. They were also a forerunner in the sale of grain futures.

Standing as testament to the agriculture on which Wisconsin prospered, the Grain Exchange Room was once the world's largest trading floor for wheat, when Milwaukee was the biggest port exporter of grain back in the late 1800s. It consists of 10,000 square feet of floor space, which today servers as a massive market amongst other uses. When inside Milwaukee's Grain Exchange Room, don't forget to look up and admire the remarkable painted ceiling of Wisconsin Wild Flowers.
